Winterisation of swimming pools

Certain steps must be taken when closing your pool in winter. Winterisation is the term given to preparing the pool water and the pool house equipment for the sad period during which it will not be used.  This lack of attention, and extreme temperatures can cause water to deteriorate fast, and equipment to be damaged.  This is why winterisation preparation is important.

Before you can winterise your pool

Water can be more aggressive when temperatures fall, so adjust the pH to the extended level of 7.4 - 7.8.

Clean you filter using a good filter cleaner.

Shock dose your pool to the level of 5-10 mg/l (ppm), or as directed on the container.

Adding Winterisation Pool Chemicals

Swimming pool algaecides are always a great idea for the cold winter months.  Lack of attention due to a lack of requirement for pristine conditions can occaisionally bring about the onset of an algae infestation, which if left unchecked, will cause problems in the spring.  A Long life copper based algaecide is a very effective way of aiding sanitisation chemicals when you are not likely to check and test pool water as regularly.
