Spa Chlorine Granules

Spa Chlorine granules are the most common choice of sanitizer.  Although there are other sanitizers available (such as Bromine), chlorine is much cheaper. 

Granulated chlorine is the preferred method for spas, as it dissolves very quickly in a warm circulating spa.  This is important as you will need to keep the cover off while this happens.  If chlorine tablets were to be used, the fumes from dissolving chlorine could cause damage to your cover and liner.  Even with chlorine granules, you should ensure your spa cover is open for about an hour to allow fumes to escape.
