Pool Chemicals for Copper Ionization Systems

This article is intended for pool owners using a chlorine free Ionization system for sanitization of your pool water.  If this applies to you we are sure you will know.  If you are interested in learning more about purchasing ionization systems, please visit Carefree Clearwater LTD.  If you want to learn about suitable chemicals that are compatible with your copper ionization system, please read on.

A main benefit of copper ionization is that it eliminates the need for most chemicals (such as Chlorine, Bromine, polymeric biguanide etc) so that in the long term it can be a far more economical sanitisation method, especially for large pools.  However, you will still need to "Oxidise" your water with a non-chlorine shock treatment, to help break down unwanted organic debris.  Outdoor pools will require close attention to algae prevention, as it can be difficult to deal with after your pool becomes infested.  For this reason, we recommend using a non-copper based algaecide as well as controlling phosphates (algae food!) with some phosphate starver. For this you will also need a phosphate testing kit.

In hard water areas you may suffer from scale build up.  Normal scale inhibitors contain large amounts of phosphates, so we recommend spending a little extra and using only a phosphate free scale inhibitor.
